Explore ScienCell’s Animal Astrocytes for Your CNS Research!

Astrocytes are the most abundant cell type in the central nervous system (CNS). They serve a variety of vital functions including supporting neuronal transmission and survival, regulating the blood-brain barrier, contributing to anti-inflammatory responses, and aiding in wound repair.
Astrocytes also play a crucial role in neuronal guidance during development and provide nutritional and metabolic support throughout life. Furthermore, they are implicated in various pathological processes like reactive gliosis. Impaired astrocyte function during conditions like stroke or other insults can critically influence neuron survival. Long-term recovery after brain injury, involving processes like neurite outgrowth and neuronal regeneration, is also influenced by astrocyte characteristics and trophic factor release. Numerous studies highlight the functional diversity of astrocytes within the CNS. Culturing astrocytes in vitro is a useful tool for exploring these diverse properties and molecular mechanisms of CNS diseases such as ischemic stroke and multiple sclerosis.
We offer astrocytes from multiple species, providing valuable models for diverse research applications.
