Neurons offered by ScienCell
Culturing neuronal cells is a challenging and time consuming process as mature neurons do not proliferate. To assist researcher with their studies, we introduced our first human neuron products in 2002 and were the first company in the world to freeze neurons. Today, we have over 9 different types of neurons available from human, rat, and mouse.
Neurons are dynamically polarized cells responsible for electrochemically transmitting information throughout the nervous system. Scientists have characterized hundreds of neuron types based on location, morphology and gene expression. In general, there are three main types of neurons: motor neurons, sensory neurons, and interneurons. Despite great variability in size and shape, most neurons share common morphological features including a cell body, dendrites, the axon, and the axon terminals.
Neurons can be used to study:
Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, bipolar disorder, addiction, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injuries.
Human, Rat, and Mouse Neurons from ScienCell Research Laboratories:
- Cryopreserved at P0 and delivered frozen
- Each vials contains at least 1 million neurons
Neuronal Medium (Catalog #1521)
Once thawed, neurons can be cultured in Neuronal Medium (#1521) and should be used directly for experiments.
