Keratinocytes
Keratinocytes
Keratinocytes, the main cell type of the epidermis, provide a protective barrier against environmental damage such as bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, dehydration, and heat. Keratinocytes produce keratin and play a significant role in tissue repair and wound healing. Keratinocytes are also involved in skin innate immunity and tissue homeostasis. Cultured human primary keratinocytes can be used to study the mechanisms of wound healing, psorasis, and skin cancer.
